Cross Country Skiing Trails

We offer cross-country skiing with groomed trails at three locations

Portage Park offers over two miles of groomed and tracked trails that enter the Bass Brook Wildlife Management Area (WMA) for 3 miles of additional trails. There are two parking lots to access these trails, one at Portage Park itself, and the other provides access to the WMA along Lake Street, near the County Road 63/Lake Street intersection.

Blackwater Environmental Area (also known as MN Power) offers two miles of groomed and tracked trails that are excellent for beginners because it is a flat area with no hills. These trails are also lighted so they are enjoyable at night without the need for a headlamp. There is a warming house and parking lot at the trailhead just off Third Street. The public boat landing on the south end of the trail system off Blackwater Road also has a parking lot.

Tioga Recreation Area has two designated cross-country ski sections: one in the southeastern corner called Good Vibrations and one on the east side called Ruby Slippers. Good Vibrations offers about four miles of ski trails, and Ruby Slippers offers about 2.6 miles of ski trails. Be aware that these may not be groomed for skiing.
